'Padel+ HK'

Padel Plus HK is the first padel tennis clubhouse of its kind in Hong Kong. Designed as both a sporting destination and a social hub, the space needed to feel energetic, welcoming, and visually aligned with the brand identity. The clubhouse includes a reception area, merchandise display, café lounge, office, meeting room, and outdoor seating connected to the courts. The goal was to establish a flagship location that feels vibrant, contemporary, and memorable, while supporting both play and community.

The Design Challenge

The site required a layout that could accommodate multiple types of movement: players entering, guests socialising, staff operating, and spectators observing. The design needed to feel dynamic without becoming chaotic, supporting clear circulation from entrance to courts while encouraging people to linger and enjoy the space. Achieving this sense of clarity and openness within a high-energy environment was central to the challenge.

Brand identity was equally important. The vivid orange tone represents both the club’s logo and the energy of the sport, and integrating it in a refined and balanced way required subtlety. The architecture also needed to create presence and recognisability from the exterior, establishing a strong visual impression that anchors the club as a destination rather than a simple sports facility.

The Design Approach

Austin began by studying the movement, rhythm, and expressiveness of padel itself. The vivid orange from the brand became a guiding colour, introduced in furniture, lighting elements, and architectural accents to create continuity throughout the clubhouse. Materials such as terrazzo, woven textures, and warm finishes were selected to elevate the environment, creating comfort and atmosphere alongside function.

A bespoke lighting sculpture resembling a tree became the central feature of the reception area. Filled with tennis balls and illuminated with subtle LED lighting, it symbolises vitality, growth, and the shared joy of the sport. The building’s volumes were intentionally offset to give the clubhouse strong character and presence, while the second-floor balcony was positioned to offer views across the courts, reinforcing connection between play, relaxation, and community.

The Design Result

The completed space feels lively, grounded, and instantly memorable. The clubhouse now supports the energy of play while offering calm areas for rest, conversation, and social connection. The design encourages visitors to move naturally between indoor and outdoor areas, reinforcing the clubhouse as a space for both sport and community life. The vivid orange accents and sculptural lighting contribute to an identity that visitors recognise and remember.

The architecture and interior styling work together to express a modern and optimistic spirit. Players can move easily through the space, while guests can watch the games, interact, or simply enjoy the atmosphere. The clubhouse is now a destination where design, sport, and culture meet, making it a meaningful first location for the brand and setting the tone for future growth.
