The design is guided by principles of balance, nature, and atmosphere, creating a home that nurtures wellbeing and feels deeply expressive of the client’s lifestyle and memories.

The Design Challenge

The brief centred on creating a serene environment where the client could unwind effortlessly. The space needed to feel open and uncluttered, with storage integrated seamlessly to maintain order and reduce visual noise. Positioning the bed away from all surrounding walls was also important, allowing access from both sides and reinforcing a sense of ease in daily routines.

The entrance presented a unique spatial challenge. A direct line of sight from the door to a large window meant energy would flow straight outward, resulting in a sense of imbalance. Additionally, exposed concrete beams created shadow lines that could contribute to heaviness in the atmosphere. These elements required a thoughtful approach to spatial redirection, circulation, and light quality.

The Design Approach

Austin drew inspiration from the client’s positive memories of Greenland, nature, and quiet moments spent outdoors. Soft colours, warm textures, and natural shapes were introduced to evoke a feeling of calm and grounded presence. Bespoke furniture was designed to organise everyday items with intention, allowing the space to feel open while still highly functional.

To guide the movement of energy throughout the home, a curved screen and rounded shoe cabinet were added near the entrance, shaping a gentle and inviting flow. Lighting was carefully layered to soften the visual weight of the ceiling beams, creating a balanced and calming atmosphere. Each material, scent, and decorative detail was chosen to engage the senses and support a holistic emotional experience.

The Design Result

The result is a tranquil and nurturing home that feels harmonious, welcoming, and deeply connected to the client’s life and personality. The space flows effortlessly, with furniture and architectural elements positioned to encourage ease, comfort, and calm. Storage solutions keep the environment organised and visually clear, enhancing the sense of openness and serenity.

Natural textures, greenery, and soft forms bring a quiet warmth to the interiors, while subtle cultural references create depth and meaning. The home now feels peaceful and grounded, offering a retreat that supports rest, reflection, and wellbeing. It is a space that honours personal history and daily ritual, shaping an environment that feels genuinely restorative.
